About
The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) is a not-for-profit educational and service organization that empowers women to succeed and advance in the field of engineering, and to be recognized for their life-changing contributions as engineers and leaders. Founded in 1950, SWE is the driving force that establishes engineering as a highly desirable career for women through an exciting array of training and development programs, networking opportunities, scholarships, outreach and advocacy activities, and much more.

At Western Michigan University, SWE is determined to help improve the skill sets of our members and offer advice, guidance, and the ability for personal growth. As an organization we hold multiple events including resume review nights, industry dinners, and various volunteer opportunities. WMU’s SWE also has the opportunity to attend the national and regional conferences held by the national section of SWE. These conferences offer informational sessions for personal/professional growth, and they each offer a career fair.

Aya Zahreddine
Aerospace Engineering
Aya is a sophomore in the Aerospace Engineering program and minoring in Mechanical Engineering at WMU. She likes to hang out with friends and travel. She joined SWE as a place where she could express herself.

Miranda Solecki
Mechanical Engineering
Miranda is a sophomore majoring in mechanical engineering. She loves all things outdoors including hiking, camping, and kayaking! She joined SWE to cultivate a welcoming community for women in engineering and offer a support system for her peers.

Larissa McKenzie
Aerospace Engineering
Larissa is a senior majoring in aerospace engineering, and this is her third year in SWE. Larissa loves volunteering for outreach events that help teach young girls why females belong in STEM, which is part of what we do at SWE! Larissa says women empowerment is her favorite thing about being apart of SWE. Larissa is also apart of the Western Aero Launch Initiative (WALI) as a team lead.

Aerospace Engineering and Spanish
Nic (they/them) is a second-year honors aerospace engineering and Spanish student. They decided to join SWE to help other minorities in engineering, especially those passionate about aviation! Outside of school, they love to dance anything Latin and lindy hop, and they are rated as a private pilot. Their favorite aircraft is the CH-4 Chinook!

Molly is a sophomore mechanical engineering major. She likes to crochet and take up new hobbies. Along with SWE she is also a member of concrete canoe, ASME, and sunseeker. She also recently became the academic chair for the college of engineering.

Paper and Chemical Engineering
Ashley is a junior majoring in paper and chemical engineering. This is her second year serving as Social Media Coordinator. She joined SWE to meet other women passionate in STEM and to create a welcoming environment.
